Greetings to all!!

As the Airport Director, it is my responsibility, and privilege, to oversee the administration, operations and maintenance of the Terre Haute International Airport.  This airport is a fantastic asset to the community and has much to offer.  With the fourth longest runway in the state capable of handling the largest commercial or military aircraft, a full-time FAA air traffic control tower, aircraft fueling and servicing, a flight school, aircraft maintenance and more, the Terre Haute International Airport can meet all of the needs of the flying public.

Regrettably, even though we have so much to offer, the airport is largely under-utilized. The downturn in the overall economy as well as the loss in recent years of air cargo and the Indiana National Guard’s flying mission has resulted in fewer operations, less activity and decreased revenues.  However, we still have a large contingent of based aircraft, both private and corporate, and we continue to solicit for new tenants, both aviation and non-aviation related.

The airport’s aircraft maintenance operator, Williams Aviation, has been in operation at the airport less than a year but has built a solid base of satisfied customers and provides a much-needed service to the airport’s tenants and users. Lifeline Air Ambulance provides medical emergency patient transfers utilizing fixed wing and rotorcraft, and Turbines, Inc. provides conversions for AgCat crop dusters converting them from piston engine aircraft to turbine engines including upgraded airframes and crop spraying capabilities.

Non-aviation related companies at the airport include FedEx Home, Wabash Valley Long Term Disaster Recovery Coalition, Vigo County Prosecutor’s Office, Avis Rental Car, RBW Trucking and the Indiana Army Reserve National Guard which is currently occupying space on the airport for a six-month training exercise.

The FAA provides control tower services 24/7 including ground and approach control as well as radar advisories and radar services in Class “D” air space.  Tri-Aerospace and VexTech companies are neighbors to the west of the airport providing precision metal working and non-destructive testing of components.

This core group of airport tenants and businesses represents what I hope to be the beginning of more businesses, tenants and use of the airport.  Myself and my staff are actively working on advertising and marketing of the airport with the goal of returning this airport to its former active state and solidifying the airport’s financial condition.

I welcome any and all comments regarding the airport.  If I can be of any assistance with any matters regarding the airport and its development, please do not hesitate to contact me.

This airport has much to offer the community and my aim is to maximize all the airport has to offer.

Sincerely,

 Dennis Wiss, AAE
 Airport Director
